Sony released sales figures from the last three months leading up to the PlayStation 4 price cut. In the three months that ended on September 30, 2015 (Q3) PS4 sold 4 million units, the same time last year Sony saw 3.3 million units sold. This, in total, has brought PS4 lifetime sales to 29.3 million units sold. When compared to the PS2, which is still Sony’s most sold system and in the same time frame sold 24.99 million units, the PS4 is outselling it by approximately 5 million.
As a result PS3 games sales started to slow down and PS4 games saw an increase along with PSN. Sony has also given updates on PSN sales and when paired with game sales the company has made $3 billion which is 16 percent higher then where the company sat this time last year. This makes Playstation the most profitable product under Sony’s umbrella and in turn has made the company increase expected sales for the PS4 from 16 million to 17 million by the end of the year. Overall Sony is in a very good spot with PlayStation and when looked at as a whole Sony has made $16 billion in the second quarter of the year.
