Over the years Defense of the Ancients 2, known as DoTA 2, has been crowd sourcing money to provide insanely large tournament prize pools for their world championships. For example, the 2015 prize pool was $18 Million*. You read that right, 18 Million Dollars for a gaming tournament. How you ask? Its simple, they introduced a specific item(s) where if you bought them, a portion would go into the prize pool.
Now, it appears that the new Halo Championship Series(HCS) plans on doing the same. A little digging on HaloTracker.net** brings up this image.
It appears that they plan to do the same, perhaps we will see some armor, or weapon skins specific to this weapon pack, or maybe this is all just an elaborate ploy. If it is true, this could be a step forward for console gaming. Every year Call of Duty has a million dollar tournament. In recent years Halo has starting holding larger tournaments sponsored by Microsoft, and 343, something it had been missing in the past. Perhaps this year we will see the first multi million dollar console gaming tournament.
