NYCC 2016 – Bandai Namco JRPG Panel

Bandai Namco held a Japanese focused RPG panel at the New York Comic Con this year, and the house was packed. Fans of Digimon, Tales, and Sword Art Online who attended were not disappointed. Producers from all three series were on hand to share footage and talk about new features in their upcoming games as well as giving away special prizes.

First up was the newest entry in the Digimon World Series, Next Order. Kicking off with a brief trailer, they then went on to explain that the game will be a “raising RPG.” How you train and treat your Digimon will directly affect how it behaves and performs in battle. The also showed footage where up to two Digimon will join the player while exploring the world and both will engage in combat together. No release date was announced for Digimon World: Next Order.

Next up was Tales of Berseria. After showing the opening animated movie, they went on to show a clip of combat where the game moved seamlessly from animated attack to cinematic with no stutter or loading.


A Collectors Edition was announced as well, with a limited run of 10,000 copies. The collectors edition will include the game, 2 figures, a number of 8-bit style keychains, and a prequel novel. Preorders are available starting today from Gamestop and Bandai Namco’s online store. The price for the Collectors Edition is $149.99 and the game will be available January 24th, 2017 on PS4 and January 27th on Steam.

Finally, Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization was given a few more details. Two new characters, Yuuki, and Kizmel, will appear in the game and there will be a focus on living in the virtual world. This focus will also include the ability to date characters. Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization comes out November 8th, 2016.


In addition to the big RPG’s, two mobile games were also announced. Tales of Link will arrive on iOS and Android “soon”, while Sword Art Online: Memory Defrag, while also listed as soon, also has a pre-resigter website. If 30,000 players go their and pre-regrister the game, they will receive special items. That website is
