Earlier this week, Amazon released a number of fun facts regarding final sale facts of the 2016 holiday season. By category, Amazon gave out the best selling items this season, along with some other miscellaneous facts. For example, customers purchased enough Hamilton books and albums to give every person at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in New York City, a copy for 96 consecutive shows. For reference, this theater seats 1,319 people, which if we combine books and albums, comes out to 253,248 products in total.
The top three selling games of this holiday season were Pokemon Sun, Pokemon Moon, and Final Fantasy XV. Noticeably missing were any sports games and the ever popular Call of Duty games. With this news, came another fun fact: if every customer who purchased one of the Pokemon games played one hour a day since release would have spent the equivalent of more than 24,000 lunar cycles playing the game. One lunar cycle is equal to 29.5 days; to do the math so you don’t have to, that comes out to 708,000 days, or 16.992 Million hours.
Top movie purchases of the year were The Secret Life of Pets, Finding Dory, and the Harry Potter 8 movie collection. Amazon also stated that they sold so many copies of the Harry Potter collection that if combined together, that would be playing consecutively for over 300 years. The movies back to back take up 19 hours and 39 minutes.
