Last week we saw a collection of photos taken with the Destiny 2 logo stamped on, as seen here. Well yesterday, Bungie officially changed its profile pictures on both Facebook and Twitter to an image of what looks like planet Earth, in flames with “Destiny 2” in the direct center.
That is about as official as it gets! This comes as little surprise as Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg updated us on the sequel’s progress earlier this year, saying “development is going great, and it is indeed on track for release this fall”and that Destiny 2 will deliver a “great cinematic story.” Also earlier this year, we heard from Bungie that characters will transfer, however, none of your hard fought gear will come with them. Personally, I don’t mind that decision, however there was some confusion on why only the guardians features will follow them to the next game. It also begs the question, will Destiny 1 players be rewarded for uploading their old guardians to the new game or will it not make a difference. Even so, with all of this Destiny news, it seems like in the very near future we will be getting an official release date and pre-order incentives.
Even so, with the mystery in the images leaked last week and now the official Bungie release of this picture, the game itself seems to be going in a different direction from the first game. With a planet on fire and the helmetless guardians on the poster, I am left wondering….will Destiny 2 be a sequel or a prequel? Only time will tell, but I can say that this is going to be another mega release for Bungie and Activision. Destiny has sold more than 5 million units worldwide, and as of November 2015, the game had 25 million registered users.
