Free Comic Book Day Saturday May 6th

Comic book fans rejoice! This upcoming Saturday, May 6th, is Free Comic Book Day! (which is a day I personally wait for all year long)  Not only are there some amazing free comic books available, but this is the day that gives opportunity for comic book lovers old and new to connect and have amazing conversations about their favorite stories and artists.  Hundreds of local comic book stores all over the US partake in this joyus event, bringing in thousands to their stores and helping boost sales, as well having markdowns on their most popular books and collectables.  Each major company usually releases something and at times, you find something that you really enjoy, for free!

Marvel’s feature for Free Comic Book Day looks to be a top secret Spiderman comic, in preparation for the upcoming Spiderman Homecoming movie this summer.  Not much is known, but I am sure if you are a Spiderman fan, this is a must grab. As well, Marvel is releasing a Guardians of the Galaxy comic the same weekend Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2 comes out in theaters.  As an avid Star-Lord lover, I will be picking this book up for sure.

On the other side, D.C. has a top secret book as well, which will more than likely be a Wonder Woman as promotion for the film coming in June. Some of the lesser read titles we will be seeing this weekend are Fresh off the Boat, Buffy: The High School Years, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, SpongeBob, Barbie and more.

A couple of the books that jump out as interesting to me are the Rick and Morty book, the Zelda comic and Dragon Ball Super book.  Each of these are semi promotional at heart, but it is cool to see Dragon Ball Super in comic form and for the first time in a long time, a Zelda story that might not have been told yet.  Some of the best aspects to Free Comic Book Day are the weird and funky comics that come out that you just have to pick up.  They are interesting, some of them funny and overall, they’re free!

As somebody who has celebrated Free Comic Book Day for 6 years in a row now, I can say that this is a fun Saturday afternoon to find yourself at your local comic book shop.  You can just connect with the books, both new and old, and find a series you really enjoy.  It also allows people to go out and support local businesses and chat with the owners. They are usually very knowledgeable about many of the series that come into their store and want you to buy some comics!  If you find yourself at a comic book shop, share with us your haul on twitter! We would love to see the amazing comics you that find their way into your homes and hear all about the new series you just could not put down.
