Star Wars Fan Films That Deserve To Be Canon

Star Wars Fan Films That Deserve To Be Canon

Canonization has long been a hot topic in the Star Wars world.  For those that do not know, “canon is the material accepted as officially part of the story in an individual universe of that story.” There have been 40 years of Star Wars content being produced with hundreds of books and even more stories.  Though the expanded universe of Star Wars has officially been set aside for awhile now, there are several Star Wars fan films which are worthy additions to the lore of Star Wars.

Hoshino – Stephen Vitale

Hoshino tells the story of a young padawan on her journey to become a Jedi Knight.  It is extremely well done, though short, and makes you feel for the young jedi.

The Old Republic – Hope – Michael Schaack:

Technically this is not a “Fan Film” per say, it is a live action shot-for-shot remake of the “Star Wars: The Old Republic” trailer that goes by the same name.  They did a fantastic job with the scenery, the effects(For it being 2012 when this was made),and managed to nail the feeling of watching the game trailer.

DARTH MAUL: Apprentice – T7Pro

Perhaps one of the greatest characters to ever meet his demise too soon in the movies, Darth Maul. This film depicts a small group of Jedi coming across the lair of Darth Maul and the ensuing battle. It is an excellent test of not only editing, but also of filmography.

TK-436: A Stormtrooper Story – UnBoxed Films

TK-436 is the gritty tale of a loyal Imperial Stormtrooper who is forced to confront his past in the heat of an epic battle.  With great visuals, and a good story, it is no wonder that this short film won the 2016 Filmmaker Select Award at Star Wars Celebration Europe

I truly believe that these short Star Wars fan films would be a worthy additions to the Star Wars brand. They represent the skill that exists out there in the community.

May the 4th be with you.
