Update: Lucasfilm has announced that Star Wars Episode IX’s original May 2019 release date will be rescheduled for December 20, 2019.
In a surprise reveal, StarWars.com has officially confirmed that J.J. Abrams will be returning to the director’s chair for Star Wars: Episode IX. Abrams will also be writing the film alongside Chris Terrio.
With The Force Awakens, J.J. delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for, and I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy, said Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy.
Star Wars: Episode IX will be in theaters May 24, 2019, and will be closing out the sequel trilogy of the Skywalker saga.
