New Smash Bros 4 Mod Recreates Melee Gameplay

The developers of 4XM, a mod previously known as Super Smash Bros. Melee HD, are trying to recreate the gameplay of Super Smash Bros. Melee for Gamecube in its Wii U sequel. This week, 4XM’s creators released a playable beta for that mod for Smash Bros 4.

As seen in the trailer (shown above), the goal of Super Smash Bros. Melee HD is to make the Wii U play like Melee. That means techniques like wave dashing, L-canceling, regrabs, etc. all make a return in the popular fighting game. Returning characters will be modded to utilize older moves, while Smash newcomers will have new tech and Gamecube-era mechanics.

Wii U owners who are interested in trying the Smash Bros 4 mod can download 4XM from their official subreddit.
