News reports are coming in that the original PlayStation trilogy for Spyro the Dragon will be newly remastered. That’s right, Spyro the Dragon, Ripto’s Rage, and Year of the Dragon will be given all new graphic makeovers! These games will be coming to the PS4, and potentially other systems, later this year.
Video game developers Vicarious Visions are confirmed to be in charge of remastering the beloved Spyro trilogy. Our favorite purple draconian should be in good hands, as Vicarious’ previous project was the well-received Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy.
The decision to remake the Spyro trilogy was likely influenced by the successful release of the N. Sane Trilogy last summer. Crash and Spyro have been video game companions for some time now. The two mascots have made cameos in each others’ games before; Crash even appears in an episode of Spyro’s Netflix show, Skylander’s Academy.
Much like the N.Sane Trilogy, the Spyro trilogy will likely feature newly remastered graphics, models, music, and animations. The series’ “passcode save system” is probably going to be replaced with the modern save mechanic used in N.Sane Trilogy. It’ll be a treat to see old favorites given a graphical transformation (and hopefully a more easily controlled camera)!
According to Kotaku, an official announcement will be made in March, with the Spyro trilogy being released in Q3 2018. There is some speculation that it will be released September, just in time to celebrate the first game’s 20th anniversary. Whenever it arrives, it’s sure to please old and new fans of the Spyro franchise!
