[UPDATE] Is Blizzard Teasing Diablo on Switch?

Update: Polygon reached out to Blizzard about the supposed tease for Diablo III and got a response that may disappoint some fans:

“We can assure you we’re not that clever,” a spokesperson for Blizzard Entertainment said via email. “[It was] meant to be a fun community engagement piece. We have nothing to announce.”

Original Story: Call me a conspiracy theorist, but Blizzard may be working on Diablo III for Nintendo Switch.

Earlier this week, a rumor has emerged from NeoSeeker that an inside source claims that Blizzard is hard at work on Diablo III for the Nintendo Switch. According to the source, Blizzard is “looking to implement local plays with multiple Switches, allowing you to team up for local co-op action as you run around Sanctuary to stop Diablo.”

At this time this was just a simple rumor, with no words from any sources outside of this. Or so we thought.

A week later, Blizzard’s official Twitter released a short video that might give us a bit more evidence to this rumor being true. The short video titled, “Sweet Dreams”, showed a Diablo night light flickering on and off. A not so subtle reference to Diablo III heading to the Switch perhaps? Or maybe some weird advertisement for a Diablo themed night light?

This may well be a video of a night light, but its generated a lot of hype with the assumption being that Diablo III will be coming to the Nintendo Switch.

If this rumor ends up being true, this will be the first time since the Nintendo 64 port of Starcraft that a Blizzard game has been officially been on a Nintendo system.

I doubt we’ll hear anything about this project until Blizzard is ready to show the game running in all its glory. But the fact that this may be getting teased suggests that an announcement or launch date shouldn’t be too far off. As a big fan of Diablo III, the idea of a portable Diablo game excites me to no end.
