A surprise announcement by Epic Games has Fortnite coming to mobile devices (iOS and Android). Specifically, it will be a mobile version of Fortnite Battle Royale. The official press release by Epic Games states that the mobile version will have all the features of Battle Royale.
The surprises don’t end there. Fortnite Mobile will feature cross-play with both PC and PS4. That’s right. If you’re gaming on an iPhone or iPad, you can enjoy the company of your console/PC buddies. The cross-play will initially be for iOS only but will extend to Android later. Regardless, this is a huge development for the game.
Fortnite, shockingly, wasn’t the first to the mobile battle royale party. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has a mobile version exclusive to China. The mobile gaming market continues to prove itself as a lucrative investment for companies. All of this is besides the numerous bootleg battle royale games plaguing the app stores.
Epic Games is also holding an invite event, presumably to act as early access for Fortnite Mobile. The event is exclusive to iOS devices and you can visit the official Fortnite site to sign up (starting from March 12th).
The minimum requirements were also shown, giving us a good idea of which phones can run the game. You will need iOS 11 and at least an iPhone 6S, iPad mini 4, iPad Pro, iPad Air 2 or iPad 2017. No details were given about the Android requirements.
There is also no mention of a release date for Fortnite Mobile. In hindsight, this is a sensible move by Epic Games. Fortnite has been a success in its current platforms. It’s only natural they would want to expand upon that success. Now, this also raises the question. Is a possible Nintendo Switch version also on the horizon? It wasn’t in the Nintendo Direct, but there is every chance it will come to the hybrid console.
With that being said, are you excited to play Fortnite on the go? Or are you sick of the battle royale trend? Let us in the comments. For all the latest and craziest gaming news, keep it locked to Mammoth Gamers!
