Having announced their own E3 conference this year, one would imagine Square Enix would have something special in store for its fans. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case with their presentation. Square Enix’s event was more of a rethreading of games we’ve already seen without detailing ones we know little about such as Final Fantasy VII and the untitled Avengers project.
Square Enix shows off the beginning and gameplay of Shadow of the Tomb Raider:
Square Enix kicked off its press conference with Shadow of the Tomb Raider showing off the game’s opening, an extended stealth sequence, and some concept art shows off locations in the game.
Eidos Montréal promised lots of new mechanics, including full 360-degree swimming, wall-running, and the biggest hub that has ever been in a Tomb Raider game and lots more deadlier tombs.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider releases September 14th.
Monster Hunter: World Is Coming to Final Fantasy XIV This Summer:
A crossover between gaming juggernauts Final Fantasy XIV and Monster: Hunter World was announced.
In a teaser trailer, we see a Palico join up with some Final Fantasy classes as the MMORPG world prepares to go toe-to-toe with some of Monster Hunter: World‘s monsters including a raging Rathalos. While details are scarce, this seems like an awesome way to bring some cool new encounters into the ever-growing MMO. The crossover begins this summer.
The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit impacts your Life is Strange 2 Experience:
During the conference, Dontnod Entertainment has said the Life is Strange spinoff The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit will be “your first steps into this world” of Life is Strange 2. Dontnod has also said that Captain Spirit will be “hiding many secrets and even some links to the new story of Life is Strange 2.”
Captain Spirit will be a completely stand-alone experience, for those who haven’t yet played any of the games in the series. The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit will be available “100 percent for free” on June 26th for PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One.
A New Trailer Offers Another Look at Dragon Quest XI:
Square Enix announced a while ago that the latest title in the beloved JRPG series Dragon Quest was coming west in September. Today, the publisher gave us another look at the upcoming game.
Alongside this announcement, Square also announced a crossover event with Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius.
Square Enix announces Babylon’s Fall, a game developed by PlatinumGames:
Babylon’s Fall is the next project from Japanese studio PlatinumGames, the company announced today with a trailer during Square Enix’s presentation.
It’s unclear what kind of experience Babylon’s Fall is, although Platinum is known for action games. The trailer ran through dates far in the future, including Judgment Day in the year 5450, before showing two massive knights fighting each other. The game is in development on PlayStation 4 and Windows PC, and is scheduled to be released in 2019.
Nier Automata: Become As Gods Edition Coming to Xbox One:
Nier Automata: Become as Gods Edition will be making its way to Xbox One on June 26th. The Xbox One Become as Gods Edition will include the 3C3C1D119440927 expansion and will include smaller pieces of DLC.
Octopath Traveler is coming to Nintendo Switch this July:
Octopath Traveler, the latest role-playing game from Square Enix, was given a short 30-second tease. The game is coming to Nintendo Switch on July 13.
Square Enix Announces The Quiet Man:
A select few titles were announced at the Square Enix press conference, and one of them was The Quiet Man.
The trailer started as live action and moved to what was seemingly gameplay, displaying a deaf man fist-fighting some thugs. Other than that, information was scarce, and the actual in-game content lasted only a few seconds.
More information on the game will be coming in August.
Kingdom Hearts III Reappears With a Slightly New Trailer:
Kingdom Hearts debuts some familiar friends and not much more during Square Enix’s conference. This “new” trailer features a lot of the same stuff from the trailer at Xbox’s conference in a new edited format.
The biggest addition of note was a single new character: The trailer featured Remy, who starred in his own Pixar film, Ratatouille in a cooking scene. Alongside that, some original characters from Organization XIII also made an appearance, while including a quick shot of Axel (Lea) and Kairi.
Kingdom Hearts III is (finally) coming January 29th, 2019.
