E3 2018: Xbox Press Conference Recap

The first of the major press conferences is over, and what a press conference it was. Microsoft has set the bar high for other conferences to come. They set the tone right out of the gate, that their conference was about one thing: games. They were true to their word. Halo, Gears of War, 50 Games, 18 Exclusives, 15 World Premiers. This was the lineup they needed when the console first was released. They also announced the acquisition of several major smaller studios which will bring all of their releases to Xbox.

Halo: Infinite:

Microsoft pulled out the big guns early, starting with the reveal of the newest addition to the Halo series – Halo Infinite. The trailer opened with a squad of Marines walking through a field, coming upon Master Chief with his helmet off. Then flips to a Warthog racing away, revealing the title shot, and the iconic theme song. Finishing up by showing Master Chief inserting a Artificial Intelligence chip into the back of his helmet.

Gears Of War:

Three Gears of War games were announced today. Gears of War Funko, Gears Of War Assault, and Gears 5.

Gears of War Funko, is as you would expect, is a Funko Pops video game. No gameplay was shown, but we can only imagine. Gears of War Assault is a PC turn based strategy game that is coming where you create a new squad of soldiers, and combat the Locust. Last but not least is Gears 5, being narrated by the soothing tones of Nathan Fillion.

Kingdom Hearts 3

One of the last things you would expect to hear about from the Xbox Press Conference is Kingdom Hearts. However, they broke expectations and are bringing Kingdom Hearts 3 to Xbox. Showing off a new world, Frozen.

Fallout 76:

We learned much more about the latest Fallout game during the press conference. We still do not know much about the story, or what the game particularly is about. But we do know it has a map four times larger than the one in Fallout 4, you are among the first to leave your vault after the end of the world.

Forza Horizon 4:

Another huge reveal was Forza Horizon 4. An open world racing game where players are playing in the same world. The game features seasons, in which the world will change depending on the weather. Lakes will freeze, and become new raceways, while in the spring the lake will be melting.

The Division 2:

Ubisoft officially revealed a walkthrough trailer for the next Division game. Set in Washington DC, which will launch in March of 2019.

Devil May Cry 5:

CupHead:

The folks behind Cuphead officially announced new DLC in a nastalgic trailer that brings us the same feeling the game did.

Jump Force:

Imagine, if you will, all of the greatest Anime characters brought into one fight game. DragonBall Z, Naruto, One Piece, Death Note, and hopefully many more. There are some amazing shots of Freiza fighting against Naruto and a Super Sayin Goku.

Dying Light 2:

Dying Light 2 was offically announced. They took particular care to show off one of the major features of the game. A system which will base the entire game truely around your decisions. They showed off one particular choice of what to do with a water source that you are sent to claim for one of the factions. If you give it to the faction, they become stronger. However if you do not, water becomes a form of currency, and beings being traded on the black market.

Cyber Punk: 2077:

Projekt RED revealed their latest project, CyberPunkk 2077, a open world RPG set in a metropolis of the future. You play a hired gun in a world of cyber enhanced thugs, hackers, and machines.

The studio buy up:

Microsoft announced that they bought not one, but four gaming studios, and are creating one of their own. They announced the purchase of Undead Labs, the creators of State of Decay 2, Playground Games, the creators of Forza Horizon, Compulsion, the studio that is developing We Happy Few. And finally Ninja Theory, the studio that brought you Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice. They also announced the formation of their own studio called “The Initiative” which is being led by Darrell Gallaher, who helped with the Tomb Raider reboot years ago.

Next Gen Announcement:

The folks at Xbox officially announced that they are working on the next Xbox Console, though they did not go into any real detail. Only that they plan on being the best place for gaming for all the years to come.

Xbox brought the full game line up to bear during this press conference. They revealed games that have become staples of gaming, and have shown that they now have stolen a PlayStation exclusive in a main Kingdom Hearts game. They announced that they have bought, and solidified several smaller developers, which will hopefully only make the games even better. The folks at Xbox set the bar high, can the Sony and Nintendo keep up?
