5 Games I’m Excited to See in 2019

5 Games I’m Excited to See in 2019
Spread the love

It’s hard to believe that E3 2018 was almost a month ago. New games have been announced, trailers have been dropped, and demos have been played—and understandably the hype has died down in the weeks following it—but now that 2018 is more than halfway over, it is time to start preparing our wallets for next year’s game releases. I’m sharing my top 5 below, but there are dozens announced so far that deserve to make this list.

1. Anthem

Full disclosure: In case you didn’t know, I’m a BioWare fangirl. I’d buy any of their games if we’re being completely honest. But that doesn’t mean I’m not genuinely excited for this game. It’s easy for studios to fall into a rut of creating the same games over and over, so the fact that BioWare is intentionally deviating from their norm is incredibly exciting, and now that more footage and information about the game has been released it is apparent to me that they have put a lot of time and energy into crafting this game.

While I’m sure some naysayers will bemoan the lack of Commander Shepard or the fact the Dragon Age 4 is presumably on the backburner until Anthem is released, I think we can expect a solid 2019 game release from BioWare.

2. Jedi: Fallen Order

While not much is known about this title quite yet, it’s a single-player game set in the Star Wars universe. Need I say more? After the Battlefront II debacle, there are many fans who are excited to see what other studios can offer in terms of Star Wars games so many interested parties will be waiting with bated breath for this 2019 game release. It is set to come out during the holiday season, so fingers crossed it doesn’t get delayed or moved to a 2020 launch date.

3. Kingdom Hearts 3

Now, this might surprise you but I’ve never actually played a Kingdom Hearts game—an unfortunate side effect of being a PC-only gamer. That being said, I’m still pretty pumped for this release. Kingdom Hearts fans have literally been waiting decades for this moment, and KH3 has been hyped up so much at this point, I’m surprised people haven’t burst at the seams with anticipation. Since this game was initially slated for 2018, I’m even more impressed they’ve managed to hold on this long.

This title is probably one of the most universally anticipated titles scheduled for a 2019 game release, and I’m genuinely hoping that fans enjoy this installment in the story. So many rumors and theories have been swirling for years; it will be interesting to see which ones are true—and which ones don’t come to fruition.

4. Dying Light 2

While not officially confirmed for next year, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this sequel will make the cut for a 2019 game release. The original Dying Light was visually stunning, mechanically engaging, and had an interesting story to boot. It will be interesting to see how this game builds on the concepts of its predecessor while bringing something new to the table. While some gamers are undoubtedly burnt out by all of the zombie titles crowding the survival-game genre, Dying Light 2 will undoubtedly have to up the ante in order to stand out from the crowd—but I have no doubt that Techland can and will accomplish this.

5. Fire Emblem: Three Houses

This might be the game that convinces me to buy a Nintendo Switch finally. While there have been plenty of great Switch titles to date, and more coming out this year, I’ve always been a fan of the Fire Emblem series. Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn were two of my favorite installments in the franchise, so to see another title come to a console makes me feel incredibly nostalgic. While Fire Emblem is well-suited to both mobile and the 3DS, releasing this title for the Switch will presumably allow the game more freedom than a handheld counterpart. For these reasons alone, I’m already excited to add Fire Emblem: Three Houses to my 2019 game release wishlist.

While this list only includes five titles, it was incredibly difficult to narrow it down to that number. Every developer brought their best to E3, so there will be dozens—if not hundreds—of great games to look forward to in the coming months.
