Electronic Arts has announced the cover athlete for the newest entry in the long-running franchise, Madden NFL 19, featuring Pittsburgh Steelers star Wide Receiver, Antonio Brown.
“I am beyond honored to be on the cover of both Madden games,” Brown said about being on both the console and PC versions as well as the newly rebranded mobile release, Madden NFL Overdrive.
This news comes one year after New England Patriots star Quarterback Tom Brady had the honors of being the cover athlete.
Steelers fans are either excited or nervous since athletes that have graced the cover of previous Madden NFL titles have been subjected to the fabled Madden Curse. While not every cover star has been affected, many of the earlier stars were either injured, saw their play dwindle, or gotten themselves in trouble after being chosen.
This news comes a month after it was revealed Brown would be a part of the Madden 99 Club, an elite club for players whose overall rating in the game is 99, the highest possible score.
In addition, EA announced the fan favorite story-mode will be making its return, now titled Longshot: Homecoming. Players will have more control over the two main characters, Devin Wade and Colt Cruise, as well as have more impact to the story, new storylines, and can continue their Longshot journey in Franchise and Ultimate Team modes.
Antonio Brown will grace the cover of the standard edition of the game, but fans can purchase Madden NFL 19 Hall of Fame Edition and see Hall of Fame Wide Receiver Terrell Owens grace the cover in his famed T-Pose celebration.
Madden NFL 19 is set to release on August 10th for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC, while the mobile versions will see the update hit their devices on August 15th.
