Part 1 with Kazuyuki Hoshino (Sonic Team Creative Director) & Tom Fry (Sonic Mania Plus Art Director) released today as the two detail the exciting new additions coming to Sonic Mania Plus, including its new features, characters, artbook, and packaging. Sonic Mania Plus builds off the momentum of Sonic Mania, introducing two new playable characters, Mighty the Armadillo and Ray the Flying Squirrel. Mighty and Ray have been absent from Sonic games since SegaSonic The Hedgehog so after nearly 25 years these two friendly faces make a triumphant return. Mighty will utilize his “Hammer Drop” technique where he does a high speed drop that destroys obstacles while Ray gets an “Air Glide” which allows him to glide in the air similarly to how Mario’s cape functions in Super Mario World.

An additionally Encore mode that will provide a fresh look to familiar zones with new challenges and layouts for new and veteran players alike. Competition and Time Attack modes will receive an update allowing four player competitions, and ghost challenges for time trials. The all-new physical edition will also come with a 32-page collector’s artbook, a reversible SEGA Genesis cover, and holographic packaging.

Sonic Mania Plus is set to release on July 17th for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC for $29.99. For those who purchased the original version of Sonic Mania, an Encore DLC pack will be available for sale at $4.99 to upgrade to Sonic Mania Plus.
