After the whirlwind of drama that ended with the firing of the Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn, Dave Bautista has stated he will not return as his popular character Drax unless Disney or Marvel use Gunn’s script slated for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
Bautista said in an interview with ShortList:
“Nobody’s defending his tweets, but this was a smear campaign on a good man, I spoke to Chris Pratt the day after it happened and he’s a bit religious so he wanted time to pray and figure it out, but I was more like: f*ck this. This is bullsh*t. James is one of the kindest, most decent people I’ve met. “Where I’m at right now is that if Marvel don’t use that script, then I’m going to ask them to release me from my contract, cut me out or recast me.”
Bautista also stated that it would be a disservice to be on set without Gunn.
There has been an ongoing campaign by the entire cast of the Guardians of the Galaxy to reinstate the director of the series James Gunn. Recently, they all signed a letter defending him to Disney saying that he is a changed man and that the tweets that got him fired do not represent the man who is being punished today.
But now Bautista, who has been the most vocal about Gunn leaving, is moving past petitions and demanding that Gunn’s script is reinstated.
What does this mean for the franchise? Will we have to say goodbye to Drax at the end of the next Avengers movie, or could this be the final straw of support for Disney to reinstate James Gunn? As we learn more, we’ll keep you updated right here on Mammoth Gamers.
