Sony Celebrates 500 Million Units Sold With Limited Edition PS4 Pro

PlayStation announced after 24 years of bringing joy to people’s homes that they have reached a milestone of selling over 500 million units of PlayStation 4.  Instead of confetti and high fives though, they have announced for a limited period of time that PlayStation will be selling a custom limited edition blue PS4 Pro.

The LE PS4 comes in a custom blue box with packaging that matches the color of the unit itself. It comes with a 2TB hard drive with a blue translucent shell (first for North America), and a very slick copper plate showing the limited edition number.  If that wasn’t enough, PlayStation also designed a matching color schemed DualShock controller with a camera to match. Not only do these items have a sleek look to them, but they illuminate as they play. Finally, they are also selling a separate matching PlayStation blue and gold headset that is set to be available sometime in September 2018.

At this time we have not confirmed a quantity available to the public, but the PlayStation video with Sid Shuman shows a 1 in 50,000 chance to acquire one with a copper plate. On the PlayStation.Blog there is mention of three very special plates to look for. Serial number 09995 being the original launch date of the PlayStation, September 9, 2015. 01115, the launch date of the original PS4 – November 15, 2013, and finally 01013 the launch date of PS VR on October 13, 2016.

All products will be available from retailers starting on August 24, 2018, and the headphones will be available sometime early September. Pricing for the DualShock controller is set for $64.99 USD, and the headphones will be available for $99.99 USD. If you are looking for more information on the price or availability of the PlayStation Pro LE,  please check the PlayStation.Blog for any incoming details.
