Kingdom Hearts III Ships 5 Million Units

In a press release, Square Enix announced that the long-awaited Kingdom Hearts III has shipped over five million units around the globe. The announcement also mentions the latest entry is the fastest selling game in the franchise.

These numbers are a mixture of both physical and digital copies across both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Since these numbers highlight the number of copies shipped to retailers, the exact number of sold to consumer copies is currently unknown.

The five million units also factor in the massive launch week in the UK where the game debuted number one on the weekly sales charts. GameIndustry.biz also notes that the UK launch doesn’t include digital copies and that 82 percent of the game’s sales were on PlayStation 4.

Released only last week, Kingdom Hearts III has received mass critical acclaim, including from our own review. We say, “From gameplay to story, Kingdom Hearts has hit all of the right cords for me,” on its way to earning a 10.
