If you log into to the PlayStation Store today on PS4 or PS3 you will be greeted by a slightly new screen. It seems Sony has updated the look of the PS-Store, making it easier to find what you need while also showing off all the new major releases.
As you can see it has a much sleeker design. The new panel system shows off new releases, like last weeks hit Until Dawn, by putting recently released games on the front panel as well as todays releases like Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and both Mad Max (The Video Game) and Mad Max: Fury Road (Movie). The new panel system also has upcoming major releases that are available for pre-order such as Star Wars: Battlefront. Now, I’ve signed into the store a few times, to be sure it wasn’t a one time thing and to make sure I wasn’t seeing things. To my pleasure my eyes are working fine, however, by doing this I discovered another cool new feature; the panels will change games with each log in. One attempt at logging in had Metal Gear Solid V where Battlefront is in the picture above, while another didn’t have Battlefront on the panel at all, instead having a pre-order for Destiny: The Taken King. Not all things are new though. The one thing that has made a return to the new layout is the side bar that you see in the in the picture to the right. The side bar used to be the only way to navigate pages. Now this seems to be done right from the spotlight tab, but nevertheless, classic navigation is still an option.
As you scroll right from the main screen you will see popular items that have now been integrated to the spotlight page. Additionally, you will see a ‘Quick Links’ for all of your PS+, PS-Now, PS-View, PS-Music, PS-Heroes, and your Sony Rewards. To the right of that you will now have the ‘Games’ tab. This page will show you all of the popular releases and upcoming releases over the past and upcoming weeks.
If you keep moving right there is now a ‘Add-On’s’, ‘Movie’, ‘TV’, and ‘App’ tab, each showcasing all the new and most popular releases in each category.
Fortunately, these are welcome changes to the PS-Store which at times could be somewhat difficult to navigate. These may be the first in many changes to the PlayStation OS and Store with the new 3.00 firmware also soon to be released. For everything you need for PlayStation, keep an eye out at Mammoth Gamers.
