Director Yoshihisa Kishimoto confirmed that there are new Double Dragon games planned in the future in an interview with the PlayStation Blog. This comes on the heels of the release of Double Dragon II: The Revenge on the PlayStation Network today as part of the arcade archives series:
Q: Finally, please leave us with a message to all the Double Dragon fans of the world.
A: We are planning to develop new Double Dragon games, so please look forward to them!
If you aren’t familiar with the game, Billy and Jimmy Lee (brothers) have to avenge Marian after she was killed. Using martial arts and their signature move So-Setsu-Ken, they must battle through Black Warriors.
Of course, The Revenge was a follow up to the hit sequel which was released on the NES. The game helped spawn a new genre of games – the side-scrolling brawler. I have fond memories of playing this game, and look forward to playing The Revenge, and new games as well.
