The Pokémon Company released more information today regarding the anticipated Pokémon Go app. The first iteration of Pokémon to reside on a non-Nintendo product that blends reality with the Pokémon Universe.
When you first download the Pokémon Go app, you are going to be able to be able to customize your avatar, which will be used as you move around the world, on your profile page, and during Gym battles. That is correct, Gym battles.
Your Pokémon appear to have two attacks, and there will be a swipe left and right dodge feature to allow you to make your opponents miss.
The staple of every Pokémon game is your Pokédex, and this is no different. As you travel around capturing Pokémon, you are able to gain levels as a trainer, which allows you to capture high level and more powerful Pokémon. These levels will also give you access to higher level items such as Great Balls, which increase the chances you will have to catch that illusive Pokémon.
Pokémon Eggs were introduced shortly into the series and they too will be in the app. These will hatch if you walk a certain distance with them.
Pokémon Evolution: now they finally touched on evolving Pokémon in the app, and it appears that in order to do so you must catch the same Pokémon enough times before you are given the option to do so. They gave an example where if there are multiple Poliwag in your area but no Poliwhirl, if you catch enough Poliwag, one will evolve eventually.
Teams and Gyms
At one point in the game, you will be given the option to join one of three teams. These teams will have access to gym locations, which you must populate with your capture Pokémon, working in tandem with the other players on your team. These Gyms will be found at real world locations. If a Gym is already claimed, you are able to challenge the gym using your captured Pokémon in order to claim it as your own. You are able to level up a gym by training the defenders of the gym, allowing you to add more Pokémon to the gym.
Pokémon Go Plus:
This is the portable device, which looks like a pokéball watch. This is actually a Bluetooth device that will allow players to interact with the game even when they are not looking at their phone. This device will notify the player about events in the game, such as a wild Pokémon, or gym battle, using an LED light and vibration. Players will also be able to use simple actions by using the single button located in the center of the device.
