With weeks of leaks and speculation Bungie has finally officially revealed the next great step in Destiny. During a live stream on June 9th, 2016 Bungie revealed the new expansion. The streamed kicked off with an exciting new cinematic introduction (which you can view at the bottom of the article) revolving around Lord Saladin who is the runner of Destinies monthly crucible event; Iron Banner. For those unfamiliar with it; Iron Banner is a multiplayer mode only available for a week during certain parts of the year, cloaked in mystery and lore. Destiny: Rise of Iron is the biggest expansion to Destiny since The Taken King at the start of year two, plus Rise of Iron is shaping up to be roughly the same size. Bungie has promised more story, weapons, gear, a new raid, and a social space (much like The Tower). The new focus is the plague that wiped out the Iron Lords who founded the Iron Banner. The Iron Lords sacrificed themselves to contain this mechanical plague, with Lord Saladin being the only Iron Lord to live. This new threat has infected the House of Devils, a Fallen faction in the game. It has corrupted and mutated them into part machine. With a new patrol zone on the Cosmodrome, along with a Fallen raid on Earth this will be a huge overhaul to the game that we know, and show how future expansions and updates could advance the game. Also this will be the first expansion to not support PS3 and Xbox 360, which are now considered legacy systems. This news is both welcome and disappointing. For players on PS4 and Xbox One, the last gen systems where holding back what the game could potentially be. However, for all those players on last gen systems, it all but kills the game. The servers are staying up for PS3 and 360 but once your character is transferred to the current gen system it is locked to that system. Many fans are upset that Bungie didn’t wait for E3 to let loose this news. There are many factors as to why they did. The major reason is that it was leaked. Once something is leaked it no longer becomes a surprise and should be made official as soon as possible. Fans should not fret about E3, there is still plenty of news to tell and I am sure we will see the PlayStation Exclusive gear and weapons with a new trailer at the Sony conference at the very least.
