The past few E3’s PlayStation has killed their conference. With playful jabs at the competition, to seemingly knowing exactly what the gamers have been wanting for years. We at Mammoth Gamers expect this year to be much of the same for PlayStation E3 2016. Sony has had one or two surprises at E3, such as No Man’s Sky, Horizon: Zero Dawn, and the first look at Final Fantasy VII remake, however besides a stand out few the only surprises has been the shear focus on games. It seems for the past two or three years Sony has been double downing on games. At some points of the press conference we could see multiple game announcements with no break or host coming out to introduce it. Sony knows this works and will continue it for this year’s E3. Now our staff has put together some predictions if you want to see what each of us this will be shown at E3 here. However there are some conclusions we can draw from recent rumors and past conferences.
Sony will open the show with a bang, most likely whatever Santa Monica Studios is working on. There have already been a few leaked images of the new God Of War game, and with the element of surprise somewhat gone this would be their likely go to game. Horizon: Zero Dawn from Guerrilla Games has just recently been delayed and this is a huge disappointment for a lot of hopeful fans. However this may lead to Horizon only getting a new trailer at the show. Other first party games that will be there is Polyphony Digital’s Gran Turismo: Sport, and Japan Studios The Last Guardian. Some believe The Last Guardian won’t be at the show, it however is very likely it will be there. This just leaves a few first parties left; Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, and Sony Bend. With Uncharted 4 just being released it is very unlikely Naughty Dog will announce their next project until the Video Game Awards, however I wouldn’t be a surprised to see the new story DLC for Uncharted 4. Sony Bend is believed to be working on a new IP entitled Dead Don’t Ride, and this is what is expected to close out the Sony conference. Sucker Punch is the only wild card. SP have been working on a new game but it is unclear if it is a new installment to inFamous or a new IP all together, but it will be exciting to see.
Sony also has a great deal of third party support and games that will most likely be at the show. Hideo Kojima’s new studio and game will be one of the most anticipated. With just getting started on his new game, and just recently revealing his new logo it might be too early to receive any new information however it will be ground shaking if there is. Quantic Dream has been quiet since the first reveal of their new game Detroit so it is expected they will have some stage presence. Finally Ready at Dawn has also been working on a few new games one of which being a PlayStation exclusive and many are expecting a new The Order game off the cliffhanger at the end of The Order: 1886. With all the big reveals out of the way Sony will show us new looks at games that are releasing very soon, such as Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, Destiny’s new expansion, and No Man’s Sky, along with a host of new indie game announcements.
With all the game announcements, Sony is going to hard pressed to find time for hardware reveals, which is why we feel they will only talk about the PSVR briefly about what they expect it will mean for the industry and why you as a gamer will need it. Now we are split about if PS 4.5/PlayStation Neo and if it will be at this year’s E3. Common sense and looking at the competition, all signs point to yes, however reports have come in saying PS 4.5 won’t be at E3 but at either Paris Games Week or Tokyo Game Show. Only time will tell, however with all the game announcements, it may be smart of Sony to wait and see what their competitors do. PlayStation E3 2016 is just days away and this E3 is going to have some of the best announcements yet in the game industry and we at Mammoth Gamers cannot wait.
