With the recent announcement of Metal Gear Survive, there are some people that are concerned about the price point. Selling a zombie survival game at full retail price might make fans of the MGS series hold on a little bit tighter to their money.
During an interview with Eurogamer, Konami’s brand manager Richard Jones mentioned that Metal Gear Survive would not be a full priced game. With Konami announcing that the game will be at a lower price, I am worried this may cause some people to be wary of how well it will play. When Ground Zeroes was announced, most people were shocked by the low price. Konami had better add enough content to keep players coming back for more of the game.
When fans of the MGS series learn that Metal Gear Survive will be at a lower price point this might make them think it will be another Ground Zeroes game, Ground Zeroes was a smaller game that was released months before MGS V: Phantom Pain.
Ground Zeroes left a bad taste in the mouth of many fans, so learning of another lower priced game from Konami might keep people away. For me personally, one feature in Ground Zeroes that I believed saved it was the replayability of the game. Having the ability to give players a variety of approaches to an objective lets them feel like each mission is their own. This also lets them experiment with how they could have accomplished an objective faster, or with greater accuracy. If Metal Gear Survive follows in the footsteps of Ground Zeroes they might be able to keep those players more invested in the game.
Konami has yet to comment on actual gameplay for Metal Gear Survive so we do not know what types of environments that will be included in the game. Konami said in their press conference at Gamescom that this game would be the Metal Gear Solid take on zombie survival. With that being said, it’s hard to know what this game will entail. If this game is going to be true to the Metal Gear Solid design it could have different rescue missions, escort missions, a horde mode, and many other types.
Since this game has just been recently announced there is still so much we do not know about the game. Now that we learned it will not be a full retail price game I expect is might land around $29.99, and I can’t really see it going for only $19.99, but only time will tell.
We will be following this story as it develops in the coming months. Be sure to come back and check in for more details.
