Fighting Games are among perhaps the most iconic games in history. From Mortal Kombat, to Tekken, to Smash Brothers they have a massive player base. However, the Marvel vs Capcom games hold a special light in many players hearts. Marvel vs Capcom is one of the very rare successful cross over games. What other game gives us the chance to pit Deadpool against Viewtiful Joe.
Polygon is reporting that the newest expansion into the franchise, Marvel vs Capcom 4, will be announced this coming weekend at the PlayStation Experience event in Anaheim, CA. The game itself is rumored to put a focus on the characters currently in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, like Iron Man, Black Panther, possibly a not so Captain America. However, it is rumored to lack any characters who have a mutant origin, like Wolverine, Magneto, or any of the X-Men.
This comes as a minor surprise as these characters were iconic to the game franchise. With characters such as Wolverine being the face of the franchise. Over the past year Marvel has shown that they are willing to work with other companies in order to make their cinematic universe larger. The inclusion of Spider-man in Captain America: Civil War, and the pending Spider-man movie prove this. However on all accounts, 20th Century Fox, the owners of the X-Men brand, want nothing to do with Disney/Marvel. Which eliminates all hope of ever seeing Wolverine team up with Captain America on the silver screen, and now on the small screen.
The PlayStation Experience takes place December 3rd and 4th at the Anaheim Convention Center in Southern California.
