During the Keynote speech at this year’s PlayStation: Experience Capcom unveiled the newest to its’ Marvel vs Capcom series, Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite. For years, fighting game fans thought this series extinct with the removal of the games from the online stores. However, thankfully this is no longer the case.
During the Capcom Cup, a Street Fighter V professional tournament put on by Capcom we were given our very first look at the new game. Featured in the trailer, Ryu and Mega Man X face off against Iron Man and Captain Marvel. Each of the teams showcase some classic and new combo moves. We also see the characters activating the Infinity Stones from the Marvel Universe. In an extended trailer, we are given our first looks at Captain America as well as Morrigan from Darkstalkers.
As we reported earlier, there are rumors that the game will not feature characters of “Mutant” origins, such as Wolverine and Magneto;. Whose character’s and move sets have been staples in the previous editions. Also that the game will focus on the existing Marvel Universe which seems to align with what we have been shown.
While the removal of mutants may be troubling for fans of the franchise,. We could potentially see characters such as Groot, Dr. Strange and Black Panther replace some of the more iconic characters.
Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite is due out sometime late next year for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows PC. While Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 is available digitally for PlayStation 4 today with Xbox One® and Windows PC versions coming in March 2017.
