During the Xbox E3 press conference Scavengers Studio revealed their newest title, The Darwin Project. An arena based competitive multiplayer third-person battle royal experience with an emphasis on survival. Players must be able to survive environmental conditions, track their opponents, craft tools, set traps and make allies to survive.
The Darwin Project takes place in a post-apocalyptic landscape in the Northern Canadian Rockies. As civilization prepares for an impending ice age, a twisted new project emerges, half science experiment and half live-entertainment. It’s called The Darwin Project and it challenges participants to survive the cold and fight to the death in a treacherous, snow-covered arena.
The game features a “Director Mode” which allows you to have an overview of the battlefield and observe the combatants below battling it out. This shows promise, and a possible avenue into a competitive player base, as the press conference had an actual live play by play announcer doing commentary of the game that was taking place below. It allows you to see equipment, health and positions of every player on the map, and lets you flip between them.
The Darwin Project is currently in closed pre-alpha and slated for launch on Xbox One, quite possibly the Xbox One X and PC in spring 2018. In case you missed it, Microsoft announced the Xbox One X at this years press conference, along with 42 games that will be coming soon.
