A new Nintendo Direct Mini dropped this morning, after weeks of long speculation, featuring new announcements detailing the next few months for the Switch. Since the Direct appeared this morning, your friends at Mammoth Gamers have summarized the biggest stories to come out.
The World Ends With You: Final Remix coming to Switch this year:
During this morning’s Nintendo Direct, the company announced a Switch port of the cult-classic DS/iOS RPG The World Ends With You.
The video shown lays out how the game is mapped to a single device, where both battle systems play out at once. There will be touch-screen functionality similarly to how the iOS version, though you can still play with a controller. Final Remix will include a new scenario, and is expected to release sometime 2018.
Aegislash, Blastoise, and More Coming to Pokken Tournament On Switch:
Two new DLC waves are in the works for the Switch version of Pokken Tournament that adds new fighters and support Pokemon.
Wave 1 releases January 31st and will add Aegislash as a playable fighter along with Mimikyu and Mega Rayquaza as supports. Wave 2, however, will add Blastoise as a playable fighter with support Pokemon, Mew and Celebi. Both waves can be purchased right now.
Kirby Star Allies Coming to Switch In March:
The new Kirby game for Switch now has a title and a release date.
The game will be called Kirby Star Allies and is set to release on March 16th. The game is co-op focused and has new powers such as spider and artist. You will also be able to combine powers together in creative ways.
Dragon Quest Builders Demo Available On Switch Today:
The Switch port of Dragon Quest Builders, the Dragon Quest-themed take on Minecraft, has a demo available today. The demo can be downloaded from the eShop and played docked or portably.
Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition Comes to the Switch:
Nintendo has revealed that a version of Hyrule Warriors is coming to Switch with every character and stage from the Wii U and 3DS versions.
The Switch version brings together both versions and adds outfits from Breath of the Wild for both Link and Zelda. The port will also have local co-op, which can be done with the joy-cons. Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition will be releasing on the Switch this Spring.
Mario Tennis Aces Coming to the Switch this Spring:
Nintendo announced a new Mario Tennis game: Mario Tennis Aces.
The game comes from Camelot, the longtime developer behind the Mario Tennis franchise. The game will feature your favorite Mario characters sporting tennis outfits, and include a full story mode. The story mode will have players traveling across the Mushroom Kingdom participating in matches, minigames, and boss battles.
Luigi Enters Super Mario Odyssey with Free Competitive Mode:
Super Mario Odyssey will be getting a free update next month. The free update adds Luigi’s Balloon World, as well as new outfits and snapshot filters.
Luigi’s Balloon World is a competitive mode players can access by finding Luigi in each kingdom. Once you talk to him, you can choose to hide a balloon or find one. If you hide it, you have 30 seconds to find the best hiding spot in hopes of giving other players a hassle. If you choose to find one, you are given 30 seconds to search for a balloon another player has hidden.
Donkey Kong DLC Making His Way To Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle:
Donkey Kong will be joining the cast as a playable character. In the video, he is shown using a banana as a boomerang and fighting it what appears to be a new jungle location. The DLC will be available this Spring.
Funky Kong Joins Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze for the Switch:
The Wii U platformer Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is coming to the Switch with Funky Kong as a new playable character.
Funky has a host of new abilities that combine all of the other Kong’s abilities into one character, including double jumping, hovering, and infinite rolling. The game will release on the Switch on May 4th.
SNK: Heroines Tag Team Frenzy Coming to the Switch:
Mai, Yuri, Kula, and more are all back in SNK Heroes: Tag Team Frenzy, a fighting game featuring all the main gals of King of Fighters. Tag Team Frenzy has new moves called Dream Finishes, which seem to be the only way to defeat an opponent after most of their health is gone. Players will be able to customize their characters using tons of new outfits and items. Tag Team Frenzy is scheduled to hit this Summer.
Payday 2 Arrives on the Switch:
The port of the co-op heist shooter is making its way in February.
The game will feature local and online multiplayer, touch-screen controls, and HD rumble. Payday 2 will also feature a new character, Joy, who is said to use their hacking abilities to make things easier for the team. Payday 2 is set to release on February 27th.
YS VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana Coming to Switch this Summer:
Ys VIII, the latest game in the long-running action RPG series is coming to the Switch this Summer.
Indie Games Fe and Celeste Arriving On Switch Very Soon:
Fe lets you control a fox-like creature as it travels through a forest that reacts to the songs its inhabitants sing. On the Switch version, you can use the joycons motion controls to affect the pitch of the songs, while also utilizing the HD rumble.
Celeste is a difficult 2D side scroller that features over 300 levels to master. the title will feature an assist mode and feature numerous difficult trials for the platformer enthusiasts.
Dark Souls: Remastered Announced:
You can now take one of the most infamously difficult experience of the last generation with you wherever you go. The Switch version of Dark Souls will be include the Artorias of the Abyss DLC and will have improved frame rate and resolution. Dark Souls: Remastered will be available on May 25th.
