Ever since the release of the first Avengers movie back in 2012, Marvel fans have been vying for a standalone Black Widow movie to grace the MCU. With her level headed demeanor, formidable spy-skills, and tragic past, Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow has been a fan favorite since her first appearance in Iron Man 2.
“There’s nothing [Marvel] can’t do. I’m sure it’s going to have the exact same effect when Captain Marvel comes out, and when the Black Widow movie comes out.”
While there has been interest in a Black Widow movie for some time, this is the first definitive statement that her solo movie is more than a distant possibility.
The desire for Black Widow to get her own movie was only strengthened when Marvel Studio president Kevin Feige admitted interest in the idea back in 2016. Joss Whedon has also gone on record in an IGN interview, stating that he’d want to direct said film if offered the job.
Chris Evans’ statement, along with DC’s Wonder Woman impressing audiences around the world, has proven that Marvel is long overdue for a movie starring action heroine Natasha Romanoff.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe schedule has a consistent spread of three movies a year until 2020. We can expect Black Widow’s movie (if it’s truly confirmed) to be released sometime in 2020, if not a little later.
