The Yakuza series, a critically acclaimed franchise for the PlayStation 3, is getting a set of remasters for the PlayStation 4. Yakuza 3, Yakuza 4, and Yakuza 5 are scheduled to be receiving HD remakes, with Yakuza 3 having a confirmed release date of August 8 in Japan.
The series has garnered an almost cult-like following with the release of Yakuza 0 in North America and Europe in 2017 (two years after its original Japanese release in 2015). This has brought Yakuza to a “whole new generation of fans,” as described by Destructoid’s article. It makes sense that Sega would want to capitalize on these new fans by releasing their earlier games for the PS4.
There is no information regarding the release of the other two remasters, nor any form of international releases. However, Sega will likely release news regarding the sequels once reception for the Yakuza 3 remake has been solidified. Given the international success of the original Yakuza releases, it would seem highly unlikely that the remakes won’t be translated overseas as well.
It has been reported that the remasters will remain largely unchanged, and will simply be the three Yakuza games with a higher resolution and 60 FPS. The Famistu Twitter has a couple of sneak peaks on the newly improved visuals, although not much has been released regarding that either.
