I discovered a rumor in a very unlikely place. While scrolling through Facebook I saw a post shared by DestinyPoint+, a news outlet for Destiny that I follow on Facebook. After reading through some of the points of the leak I’m torn. Bungie has just recently announced a full reveal of Destiny 2 Year 2 on June 5th and this announcement was accompanied by a very Reef like image. The Reef in Destiny 1 was a social space that was the Awoken home. This area brought me some of my favorite memories of Destiny 1. Trials of Osiris, House of Wolves, and Prison of Elders to name a few. Now with that being said, these rumors have a lot of weight behind them. Mara Sov, Prince Uldren, The Nine. All of these things have been in Destiny since the beginning. Mara Sov has been teased as still being alive since her apparent death in the opening of The Taken King. Uldren’s ship is a scalable object in a Lost Sector on Mars in Destiny 2’s new expansion; Warmind. However, I still have doubts. Before I get into them here is the rumor post:
As you can see there are a lot of great things teased here. A new race of enemies, finally meeting The Nine, the Queen returning. These are all things I want from Destiny. However, there are a few things I don’t understand, so hang with me. I’m about to get nerdy and nitpick.
The Nine. These beings have been sending Xûr to us to give us some awesome exotic weapons and armor since the launch of Destiny, and this continued in Destiny 2 while also giving us our new Trials mode; Trials of The Nine. However, even with all the gifts we received from them they still felt like they had a hidden agenda. What were the Strange Coins used for, to us they had no worth, but to The Nine they were willing to part with extra powerful weapons for them. Also, they were the ones who released Skolas and the cause of the House of Wolves expansion. So why would we be helping them? Also in this rumored expansion it is said that The Nine release the new Void Demon army to counteract Uldren, and now they are a new enemy type. If we are aligned with them then why unleash something that we would also need to fight?
Now on to Uldren. He is listed n the bullet points as one of the antagonists. Why? Yes Uldren has never been our biggest friend, but he was fully loyal to the Queen, his sister, who was on our side. If she is being held captive by The Nine as the rumor suggests, then why would we not be aiding Aldren and the Fallen on his side?
If these rumors turn out to be true I will expect Bungie to have answers for us, but I’m worried that these questions I have support the line of thinking that these rumors are nothing more than just rumors. Nevertheless we will find out on Tuesday what Bungie has in store for Year 2 of Destiny 2. For all things Destiny keep your eyes up to Mammoth Gamers Guardian.
