The final entry to the latest Star Wars trilogy will begin filming early August, and the cast members have been revealed. Along with previous actors, Star Wars: Episode IX will be welcoming back J.J. Abrams as its director. Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, and J.J. Abrams will be producing the film, while Callum Greene and Jason McGatlin will act as executive producers.
The actors for the main characters of the previous two installments will be returning to continue their roles, including Oscar Isaac, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Adam Driver. Cast members from the previous trilogies, such as Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, and Billy Dee Williams (as Lando Calrissian), will be returning to their characters as well. Billie Lourd, Lupita Nyong’o, Joonas Suotamo, Kelly Marie Tran, and Domhnall Gleeson will also be reprising their roles in the latest movie. Two new faces will be seen in Star Wars: Episode IX, with Naomi Ackie and Richard E. Grant joining the cast.
Princess Leia will be making a few appearances, using previously unused footage from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Abrams has decided to honor the late Carrie Fisher by using said footage and choosing not to utilize CGI or a new actor. This decision has been met by the support and blessing of Carrie Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd.
With the cast released and filming starting August 1st, we can only wait and see what will become of the final installment of the Skywalker Saga.
Star Wars: Episode IX is scheduled to be released in December 2019.
