When Mr. Takahashi said to expect more Mario Kart 8 Deluxe updates, he wasn’t kidding. Late last night, Nintendo announced a new update to Mario Kart 8, which adds some Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild content to the game. From the patch notes for the update, version 1.6.0 contains the following:
- New character added: Link (Champion’s Tunic)
- New vehicle added: Master Cycle Zero
- New tires added: Ancient Tires
- New glider added: Paraglider

Check out Breath of the Wild Link in action in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in the trailer above.
The new content here comes from Link’s latest adventure. Link’s new blue Champion Outfit reflects the new outfit Link wears in Breath of the Wild. The Master Cycle Zero, introduced in the Champion of the Ballads DLC, is Link’s motorcycle, making it a natural fit for the Mario Kart series. The paraglider is the same one Link gets that lets him escape the Great Plateau at the beginning of Breath of the Wild and allows him to traverse the great land of Hyrule.
The update also includes unspecified “revisions to improve gameplay,” as well as some unlister content, according to Nintendo’s support website.
This update is now available for all Mario Kart 8 owners to enjoy, so get to those tracks and show everyone who’s the real champion!
