Hey, remember that Uncharted movie that was revealed to be in pre-production around 2009? The one that, since then, has gone through development hell and has been passed around from different writers? Well it seems that, despite its rocky history, the Uncharted movie is finally buckling down on being made.
In May 2017, it was divulged that the newest Spider-Man actor, Tom Holland, had been cast to play a young Nathan Drake in the upcoming film. The young actor certainly has the charisma and energy to play such an iconic character, with his version of Spider-Man being one of the best received ones. However, Sony is still reportedly looking for a scriptwriter after Joe Carnahan’s “monstrously cool” script was thrown out.
The director and executive producer of Netflix’s Stranger Things is also set to direct the Uncharted movie, and recently gave an update on the film to The Playlist. In this interview, he stated:
“As of right now, the closest to the starting line is Uncharted in that it’s a massive title. We now have a very good script and we have our star in Tom Holland. That is now subject to schedule and additional casting. But I would say as of right now, that seems to be the most near horizon. And it’s a movie I’m very excited about.”
There is certainly more to be done before the Uncharted movie can be given a release date or other development details, but hopefully it’s now on the right production path.
If you’re excited for this upcoming film, be sure to check out the 15-minute, fan-made Uncharted movie starring none other than Nathan Fillion as Nathan Drake. It’s a must see for any fan of the series!
