Today Marvel fans got a surprise in finally getting to see the new look of Captain Marvel starring Brie Larson. Entertainment Weekly broke the story with an exclusive first look at Marvel’s latest superhero. If you stayed around to the end of Avengers: Infinity War, you would see that the last shot is a beeper image with the Captain Marvel logo on it.
From what we know this is the first solo female-led movie from the Marvel Universe, people will be very excited to see what this film has to offer. Captain Marvel will take place in the 90s where we get to know her and her team. It has also been revealed that there will be an elite team being assembled called Starforce on the Kree planet Hala. The group includes Korath (Djimon Hounsou), Minn-Erva (Gemma Chan), Commander (Jude Law), Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace), along with Captain Marvel herself.
Before Captain Marvel, her name was Carol Danvers where she was a fighter pilot in the air force with strange alien powers. We meet her oldest friend Maria Rambeau (Lashana Lynch) whose call sign is “Photon” on the airfield as well.
Marvel also released the villain, the leader of the Skrulls, Talos. The threat with Talos and with the other Skrulls is their ability to shapeshift on Earth. What we do know is that Talos goes undercover as a working human at S.H.I.E.L.D.
Guardians fans rejoice for the Kree are back since this takes place at a different time. We’ll get to meet Ronan the Accuser before he would take his place on the throne back in Guardians of the Galaxy.
Jude Law enters the MCU playing the commander of Starforce being a mentor for Captain Marvel in her earlier years. Jude Law commented to EW and said this, “These extraordinary powers she has, he sees them as something of a blessing and something that she has to learn how to control. That’s a motif throughout the piece, the element of learning to control one’s emotions and to use your powers wisely.”
