Cult Classic Yume Nikki: Dream Diary is Coming to Nintendo Switch

Horror fans, rejoice! A cult classic within the horror genre is on its way to the Nintendo Switch, and it will be here before you know it. Yume Nikki: Dream Diary will be available for Nintendo Switch later this month on February 21, 2019.

The synopsis, according to Nintendo, is as follows, “Play as a young girl as she explores the mysterious and unreal world of her dreams. Start off with no story or guide, as you experience the different worlds of her dreams, each one deeply shrouded in mystery.” There are 7 doors, or dreams, to explore, in no specific order, and there are puzzles to solve and monsters to run from as you come ever closer to solving the mysteries surrounding these dreams.

The Nintendo Switch port of the cult classic will be an “homage” to the original as it will be reimagined with a 3D graphics engine from its original pixelated look. While promising to uphold the feel and atmosphere of the original Yume Nikki, they do promise a new game system as well.

Yume Nikki

Yume Nikki took the internet by storm in 2004 when it was released by its anonymous developer, Kikiyama. Early last year, the RPG was released for free on Steam along with a two-week countdown timer. At the end, Yume Nikki: Dream Diary was announced for PC in 2018.  Since its creation, the horror title has been adapted into mangas and light novels and a mobile visual novel called Yume Nikki: The Fourteenth Door.
