Captain Marvel has hit the big screen, and boy, was I not ready for it! I’m not sure what I went in expecting, other than to find out about Nick Fury’s eyepatch, but I walked away more excited for upcoming Marvel movies than any movie before! AvengersEndgame might be the Marvel powerhouse of the year, but Captain Marvel is the hype train that will take us all there!

First impressions

Unless you are a comic reader, don’t expect to go into this movie having some idea of what’s going on. You’ll walk away with all the answers you need, but oh boy, does this movie do a great job at creating mystery and even has some awesome shocking moments. I also won’t lie, there was a moment here and there where I had to keep myself from crying in the theater. The emotional moments in this movie will hit home for some people, and they could leave you clapping at the end of the movie. Captain Marvel is for sure the ray of hope we needed after Avengers: Infinity War!

Timeline

This movie is the prequel to all the current Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. We not only learn why Nick Fury wears an eyepatch, but we also learn where the name Avengers comes from. We learn how Shield got to where it is when they find Iron Man, as well as why they are looking for different heroes. This will answer a lot of questions for people and explains so much, but will have you rushing to rewatch the older Marvel movies. I feel like I have a better understanding of the Marvel universe now, but at the same time, I feel even more loss! The reason for that is that with this new insight to the Marvel universe, I feel like I missed so much from the previous movies. With 20 other movies to watch, the countdown to Avengers Endgame will be filled with binge-watching all of them!

What’s to come

I normally look forward to every sequel that follows a Marvel movie, but I don’t know if Captain Marvel needs one. The movie tells a great story, and while there is more to cover, I don’t feel we need to learn more on Captain Marvel. The mystery of Captain Marvel’s time between Captain Marvel and Avengers Endgame adds a great deal of this sense that her character is more than just your everyday Avenger. She is this elite super strong being that is off in the galaxy doing things larger than the Avengers.

After Credits Scene

Like any good Marvel movie, this one comes with a beautiful post-credit scene, which provides info on the next upcoming movie. This one, as with the one from Ant-Man and the Wasp, has to do with Avengers Endgame. If you thought prior snippets of what’s to come got you excited for Avengers Endgame, then this whole movie will be one big war cry that’ll fill you with excitement for Avengers Endgame! I won’t talk much on what happens to save your eyes, but trust me, it’s a must-see scene.

Avengers 4: Endgame

Should You Watch

Yes! If you have Avengers Endgame on your watch list, you have to watch this movie! Not only will it explain upcoming events, but this movie will get you super hyped for Endgame. Along with creating hype for Avengers Endgame, this movie is honestly a great watch for anyone. With a diverse cast and a female director and a female lead; this movie has to be one of the best female superhero movies I’ve ever seen. There is only a small moment in the story where Captain Marvel being a woman plays any role in her origin story. This movie does a beautiful job at showing that it doesn’t matter who you are; anyone can be a hero if they set their mind to it. This is a movie I’d watch again, I’d invite my family to watch, I’d watch with friends; this movie is truly for anyone.

When Jonathan isn't playing video games or cooking, he is writing poetry and computer code. He enjoys PC gaming, but won't let go of his roots in handheld and console gaming. If it isn't his PlayStation 4 or Vita, then it is his Nintendo 3DS or GameBoy Advance. He also enjoys a good Billy Collins poem, while enjoying some homemade caramel.
