In a surprise announcement, Sony announced a new ongoing video series called State of Play. The inaugural episode launches today at 2 p.m. Pacific, 5 p.m. Eastern. You can watch live on Twitch, YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook with the VOD coming later.
According to the PlayStation Blog, the first episode of State of Play will show upcoming PS4 and PSVR titles. Sony also teases new trailers, new gameplay footage, and new game announcements. No other details were given, including how long the episode will run. Though with Days Gone set to launch next month, Dreams to launch this Spring, and big hitters like Ghost of Tsushima, The Last of Us Part II, and Death Stranding, Sony has a lot to showcase in addition to any other partnerships they may be sitting on.
Sony also confirmed that the Nintendo Direct-like show will continue throughout the rest of the year with more announcements. The new announcement means that all three major hardware manufacturers have their own direct to consumer shows. Nintendo has been making Directs (you can check out our coverage of the latest Direct) since late 2011, and Microsoft started Inside Xbox back in early 2018.
This news comes after a year of big news coming from Sony. The company announced that they wouldn’t host a PSX last year or attend E3 later this year.
