If you’ve ever thought that Ni no Kuni would make for the perfect movie, then your wish has been granted. Studio OLM (Pokemon anime, original Berserk) is making an animated Ni no Kuni movie. It’s set to release this summer in Japan, with no words of an English release at the moment. However, such a release seems inevitable since Ni no Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom proved to be quite popular in the west.

Warner Bros. Japan has also revealed our first look at the movie with a one minute trailer. It mainly showcases the animation but also gives some clues regarding the story. There appears to be a love triangle of sorts between the three main characters. The two boys are transported to the world of Ni no Kuni and they end up in the Kingdom of Evermore.

Our first look at the main characters.

It’s great that they are doing a completely original story and not just adapting one of the games. That should give them the creative freedom to come up with a great plot and new characters. However, I’m also happy to see Evermore as the setting. We spent so much time building the kingdom from scratch in Ni no Kuni 2. It will be awesome to see how the place has changed over time and whether it still maintains the values of King Evan.

The animation itself looks pretty great. We didn’t get to see any actions scenes or magic, but I’m sure they will be in the full movie. I’m also hoping we get to see some of the old locations like Hydropolis. This movie clearly has a lot of potential to be a meaningful addition to the world of Ni no Kuni. There is still a lot of room for exploring more of the lore and introducing new plot threads. Are you excited to see Ni no Kuni hit the big screen? Just an average person who almost plays fun video games and sometimes watches anime. Other than that, doesn't get much else done with his spare time. Twitter is @arshad_mawla, however, be warned as it is completely barren.
