Atlus has finally revealed some information regarding Persona 5 The Royal, a remake of their 2016 hit, Persona 5. An official trailer was released outlining the changes and additions to the stylish RPG. Persona 5 The Royal will include a new Phantom Thief as well as new music, gameplay elements, and more.

The latest trailer dropped lots of small details, but the biggest addition might be the introduction of a new party member, Kasumi Yoshizawa. She was first alluded to in a short teaser released by Atlus, where she appears to have a cautious dislike for the Phantom Thieves. There is no information hinting at how she joins the main characters in their adventures.

Adding additional female characters is nothing new to the Persona franchise. A female protagonist was included in the Persona 3 remake, Persona 3 Portable, and the Aeon Social Link of Marie was added to Persona 4 Golden.

In addition to Kasumi Yoshizawa joining the party, Persona 5 The Royal will add a new Confidant (which is Persona 5’s version of Social Links) in the form of a school counselor. Nothing has been revealed regarding his Confidant perks or how he’ll interact with Joker.

There are many other new features to be seen in the new trailer. There appears to be added city exploration, new places to visit and upgrade your stats (who’s excited to play pool with the squad?), as well as additional attacks and animations for your party members, including the possibility of combined party attacks!

Persona 5 The Royal will be released in Japan on October 31, 2019, whereas the western release will be sometime in 2020. Fans everywhere are excited to steal hearts and replay the exciting story of Persona 5.
