Well, it’s finally here. The live-action Sonic the Hedgehog trailer has been released to the world, showing off the blue blur in blessed CG form. After the stir caused by the reveal of Sonic’s movie design, fans have been cautiously dreading the reveal of the whole trailer.
With the Sonic the Hedgehog trailer, we get to see the titular character in action. He’s speedy, he’s snarky (voiced by Ben Schwartz), and he accidentally causes world-wide power outages with his strange electricity running powers. As Coolio’s “Gangsta’s Paradise” plays in the background, we watch Sonic attempt to fight Dr. Robotnik (played by the ever-so charming Jim Carrey) by blasting through robots and breaking the sound barrier.
Speaking of Dr. Robotnik: Jim Carrey hams it up onscreen again as he gradually transforms from an eccentric, black-clad military scientist to the bald, bizarre nemesis of all cartoon hedgehogs. He appears to be enjoying himself thoroughly, and it shines through his performance.
Rounding out the cast is James Marsden’s character, Tom Wachowski, who helps Sonic on his quest to defeat Dr. Robotnik via a wacky road trip. After an initial rocky meeting, the two work together as they travel to San Francisco. They also manage to convince a few strangers that Tom is a child kidnapper. So, fun.
The Sonic the Hedgehog movie will be released on November 8th, having changed from its original November 15th release.
