It has been tentatively revealed by Buzzfeed News that a Star Wars movie is in the works based on the classic BioWare roleplaying game, Knights of the Old Republic. According to three sources close to the project, it is being written by Laeta Kalogridis of Shutter Island and Avatar fame.
According to Buzzfeed, Kalogridis has almost completed the script for the first movie, although there is potential for a Knights of the Old Republic trilogy to be made. Despite this, representatives for Kalogridis, Lucasfilm, and Disney have yet to respond to any request to comment on the validity of these statements. There has been no information regarding a release date either.
However, during Star Wars Celebration in April, the president of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy, stated, “Yes, we are developing something to look at. Right now I have no idea where things might fall, but we have to be careful that there is a cadence to Star Wars that doesn’t start to feel like too much,” when inquired about the potential for a Knights of the Old Republic project.
The game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was developed by BioWare in 2003. It gained praise from critics and fans alike for its story and characters. It was even listed as one of the most influential works in the Star Wars Expanded Universe by the Los Angeles Times.
