Earlier this week, a tweet from Kojima Productions surfaced with the message, “Countdown for #DEATHSTRANDING is on. Stay tuned – May 29th. Help us reconnect” Each day since then, we’ve received cryptic information in the form of tweets regarding the game. Rumors have been swirling that we may be getting a proper trailer for the Death Stranding sometime this week, possibly as early as tomorrow according to these tweets.

The latest development from the game is perplexing livestream video that has been seemingly looping for hours on PlayStation’s Twitch channel. The stream title reads, “DEATH STRANDING: Tomorrow Is In Your Hands.” A series of handprints keep appearing on what appears to be some oily, black substance. There is a perpetual ominous track playing in the background, and occasionally some indistinguishable mumbling dialogue. If you look closely, you’ll notice characters behind the handprints, but it’s hard to make anything out with the flickering lighting and muted colors. Twitter user @nibellion also spotted a quick image of what seems to be Norman Reedus that flashed on screen for a split-second.

It’s been almost a year since Sony’s E3 2018 Press Conference, the last time we last saw anything of substance from Kojima on Death Stranding. The timing of this information is a bit odd, however, as Sony already mentioned that they would be absent from this year’s E3 2019 events. Maybe they planned all along to get out ahead of the rest of the industry and give us piecemeal updates on each of their big titles. But, the more information we get on Death Stranding, the more confusing and convoluted it all becomes. Maybe that’s been Kojima’s plan all along.

What do you think this video could be telling us? Is there something you’ve spotted that we may have missed? Let us know in the comments below, and for all the rest of your obscure and puzzling information, stay tuned to Mammoth Gamers!

5/29/19 UPDATE: Kojima and PlayStation have debuted a new roughly eight-minute-long Death Stranding trailer that ends with the game’s November 8th release date for PlayStation 4.
