The internet sprung into action when the first trailer for the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie was released. As soon as people saw the speedy blue boy in motion, the design has been ripped to shreds as being creepy, uncannily human-like, and full of teeth. We didn’t realize Sonic had teeth. There was a public outcry amongst Twitter to fix Sonic the Hedgehog’s design for the new film. Now it seems like fans are actually getting what they want.
In a recent tweet, Jeff Fowler, the director for the film, stated that he and the rest of the Sonic movie team have taken to heart all of the critique and fan-edits. Sonic the Hedgehog’s design will look completely different in the fully released movie. He ends the tweet with the hashtag #gottafixfast.
“Gotta fix fast” is correct, as Sonic is the main, CG character of the whole film. Editors will have to work non-stop in correcting all the scenes they’ve already created with the new, hopefully improved design for our favorite speedster. According to Polygon, “it’s a move that’s unprecedented in just how extensive the work will have to be, particularly given that Sonic has already been publicly unveiled.” We can only hope it works.
I have already stated that I think the live-action Sonic movie will be fun, no matter what Sonic the Hedgehog’s appears to be. Hopefully the updated look will be well done, and that it adds to the charm of the story. Now all we can do is wait and see.
