THQ Nordic announced a new spin-off title in the Darksiders franchise titled Darksiders Genesis, and the game looks to be a Diablo-like game.

Developed by Airship Syndicate, a team that includes the original artist Joe Madureira, Darksiders Genesis is a top-down action-RPG where you’ll play as a new Horseman of the Apocalypse, Strife. According to THQ Nordic, the game features “intense combat, exploration, puzzle-solving, epic boss battles and serpent holes from heaven to hell.” According to Game Informer, the game is a prequel to the Darksiders franchise that started back in 2010.

The most recent game in the franchise is Darksiders 3, developed by Gunfire Games, a team that consists of a bunch of the original developers. On Twitter, THQ Nordic did specify that this game was not the next in the mainline franchise by tweeting “It’s a spin off, not a sequel… .” The official Darksiders Twitter account followed that up with the hashtag #Not4Yet, hinting that a fourth title may still be on the way.

In the teaser, Strife meets with Lucifer himself. A bit of gameplay shows the possibility of co-op; it looks like War accompanies Strife with plenty of combat and exploration that the series is known for. Gathering loot looks like a big part of the gameplay as well- a clear nod to the Diablo franchise the game is taking inspiration from.

THQ Nordic continues to announce a bunch of games. This news comes after the publisher announced SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated, a remake of the cult classic 2003 game. Keep in mind, THQ Nordic is still set to announce one more game in the coming hours.
Darksiders Genesis doesn’t have a release date but is coming to PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Steam, and Google Stadia. Pre-orders are available for $39.99 for consoles. For more, keep it locked to Mammoth Gamers.
