On their official Twitter account, THQ Nordic, the publishing studio that buys everything it can, has announced the game you’ve all been waiting for, a remake of the 2003 cult hit SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom. *Insert ‘What Year Is It?’ Meme Here*
The YouTube description of Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated does hint at an all-new multiplayer mode that will possibly let players control SpongeBob, Patrick, and Sandy from the hit show. It also notes that the game will be “faithfully remade.” You can watch the trailer above.
The full title is SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated. Details are light on the game, but THQ Nordic accompanied the tweet with a short 20-second teaser that doesn’t show off any gameplay. The game’s official Steam page notes that cut content from the original game will make its way to the remake. The company working on the remake is Purple Lamp Studios, a small Vienna-based team that worked on The Guild 3, according to their official site.
This announcement comes over a year after the company announced a partnership to bring back some beloved Nickelodeon games from yesteryear. THQ Nordic has also been teasing three game announcements before the official start of E3. The next two games are set for a reveal later today, June 6th, and Friday, June 7th. We’ll be sure to follow up with those announcements as well.
SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated is coming to PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC, but does not currently have a release date, but we will be sure to update you as soon as we hear one. For more THQ Nordic announcements, stay tuned to Mammoth Gamers.
