To the excitement of many, Activision has released the trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The trailer showcases footage and gameplay for the reboot of this long-running sub-series, as well as the release date. This will be the latest Call of Duty game since Black Ops 4 and WWII.
The developers, Infinity Ward, have confirmed that this game will have a single-player campaign as well as the usual multiplayer mode. The campaign is stated to “offer a diverse range of play styles, with players engaging in close quarters, stealth, and long-range combat, and features a rich cast of international special forces and freedom fighters.” Activision has confirmed that players will be able to “experience the personalities” of the characters they meet as they complete the story.
The story mode for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2019 is going to be heavily focused on the gray morality present within wartimes. Jacob Minkoff, the single-player design director on Modern Warfare, has explained that since the story is focused on war in the modern world, “if we whitewash it, if we backpedal from it, if we show a world where the heroes fight the terrorists and win, you never see the impact on the average person, the collateral damage, or the morally gray situations that soldiers themselves have to face.”
The rebooted Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be made available for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on October 25, 2019.
