Are you having issues while chatting with your friends on PS4? Wish you could expand your chats to more people? Well, it looks like Sony is going to be your genie and fulfill your wishes and make some PS4 chat enhancements.
According to a post on the PlayStation Blog, Sony has detailed a few updates that are coming to the Party functionality of the PSN. The caveat, these features are a part of the Preview Program, and you won’t be able to chat with non-Preview Program members for the time.
If chosen, you will be able to make a party chat up to 16 players, doubled from the original capacity. Sony also notes improved audio quality and improved network connectivity, though the company did not go into specifics on what these improvements exactly are. You’ll just have to trust the company for now. U.S. testers will also get early access to a chat transcription feature that is available through the PS4 Second Screen app on your smartphone. Android and iPhones are supported.
Since you can’t chat with non-Preview Program members, Sony is going to help out the problem by allowing you to invite up to 20 different accounts. This, of course, exceeds the 16 person limit, but should help you be able to test out these new features with no issues. Parties that are a part of the Preview Program are denoted with an asterisk (*) in front of the Party name.
Sony didn’t provide an official release date for all players, but normally when the company starts to send out Preview Program invites, it should only be a matter of weeks before all players get their hands on the improvements. The company has been busy with PSN improvements over the last few months. After over a decade, PSN players finally have the option to change their PSN ID, so you can finally shed that embarrassing name your 15-year-old self made.
